Docs Ireland are thrilled to announce an exciting new residency award with the Jacob Burns Film Center in New York.
The Jacob Burns Film Center Residency Award provides filmmakers with access to the Burns’ esteemed residency program. Located in upstate New York, this residency allows filmmakers to immerse themselves in their work while making use of the facilities at the Burns’ state of the art Media Arts Lab. The residency includes comfortable housing for two, 24-hour access to a private editing suite, a $500 per-person weekly stipend, and reimbursement for transportation to and from the residency. The Burns is located just an hour north of New York City and is steps away from the nearest train station, putting our artists-in-residence in close proximity to the city. Past artists-in-residence have included such world-renowned filmmakers as Bong Joon-ho and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
AND the winner of the inaugural Jacob Burns Film Center Residency Award is…...
HEAR MY VOICES
Director: Leo Regan
An intimate portrait of a courageous group of voice-hearers fighting
to reclaim their identity in a world that refuses to understand them,
discovering connection, resilience, and unexpected joy.
Ian LoCascio, Jacob Burns Film Center:
“While meeting with the many gifted filmmakers at this year’s vibrant Docs Ireland marketplace, I was immediately struck by Leo Regan’s pitch for his film Hear My Voices — a thoughtful, insightful look at an often marginalized community rarely depicted on screen with such empathy. I’m proud to announce that the film team for Hear My Voices will be the inaugural recipients of the Jacob Burns Film Center Residency Award. We look forward to welcoming Leo to the Burns, and are excited to launch this partnership with Docs Ireland.”
Rohan Berry Crickmar, Docs Ireland:
“It is an absolute honour to be partnering with the Jacob Burns Film Center for this new marketplace award at Docs Ireland. Ian LoCascio was able to spend some time with us in the Docs Ireland marketplace this year and meet with all of the projects that were present. It seems fitting that the first Residency Award goes to an Irish filmmaker with a really exceptional project that will absolutely benefit from time at the Jacob Burns Center in the coming months. Leo Regan’s Hear My Voices is exactly the kind of documentary filmmaking Docs Ireland needs to be championing and we are really pleased to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity to the filmmaker in partnership with Eric Hynes and his team at the Jacob Burns Film Center. We hope this will bode well for future editions of the award and look forward to seeing Leo’s finished project at a future Docs Ireland.”
